Wandsworth Town Hall Wedding

Bride and Groom kiss after being married at Wandsworth Town Hall

Diem-Tu and Ben at Wandsworth Town Hall

Diem-Tu and Ben are a genuinely lovely couple. Sometimes you get such lovely vibes off a couple that by the end of the day you feel like you have been photographing a friends wedding, and the wedding of Diem-Tu and Ben was exactly that.

Bridal Prep

Each Bridal Prep is different. Some have a chaotic energy with many different family members running around trying to shout over each other (always fun), and some are calmer and more meditative. This was definitely the latter. The Bridal Prep consisted of Diem-Tu getting ready assisted by her best friend, whilst her Mum and some other members chatted in the kitchen in Vietnamese. The calmness can be seen in the photos, punctuated by some great, big laughs.

Hands in the air!

I have photographed most of the Town Hall’s in London, and I think Wandsworth Town Hall sometimes gets overlooked as its quite a striking venue. It is a Grade II listed building with a strong art deco design and a grand marble hall that adds to the impact. Some council buildings can be quite cramped, but the large space in the marble hall gave lots of space for the guests to mingle beforehand and for me to grab some great documentary shots.

Winchester House Club Wedding

After the ceremony we all headed over to the Winchester House Club for the reception. It was my first time photographing here and it is a lovely place. Lovely garden for the guests to mingle in next to the Thames, and beautiful inside and out. When I was looking out over the Thames, I realised we were directly opposite Fulham Palace, which was the venue for my own wedding!

One of the added benefits of being directly on the Thames is that it presents lots of options for the Bride and Groom photos. I always try and keep these as natural as possible, essentially letting the Bride and Groom go for a walk together whilst I am 30 feet in front of them capturing some more natural moments without lots of direction. Your wedding day isn’t a photo shoot!

Capturing a Moment

I think the above photo in many ways encapsulates my style of photography. Whilst obviously the wedding day is mainly about the Bride and Groom, it’s also about the friends and family that you invite to share your day and the moments between them. The above photo wasn’t in any way posed, I was in fact about 10 metres away when I saw it was about to happen and could visualise the shot. I got into position at the perfect moment to capture the shot without the couple knowing I was there, to capture a very natural moment.

The rest of the day was filled with food, drinks, some fantastic speeches and some amazing moves on the dance floor!
